Early in 2004, we launched Idea International. 2004 was the year of the Monkey, the perfect sign to guide us in our new venture because Monkeys view everyone as teachers. They’re willing to listen and learn from their mistakes. They are calm, logical thinkers, and good salespeople.
As Idea begins its sixteenth year, we welcome the year of the Rat. In western culture, Rats are not particularly popular. But Rats can cheer Monkeys, and when these two are together, they’re happy and laughing. As the first of the twelve animal signs in the Chinese zodiac, Rats like to be ahead of the game and at the forefront of the action. They like taking charge of projects and solving problems.
Rats are restless, inquisitive, and above all, busy. They are clever, and as the Chinese say, even in times of scarcity, Rats somehow always know where sacks of grain can be found. Rats can never let a challenge pass. They have a keen sense of adventure, and they love foreign travel. Yet Rats are inherently domestic creatures and put their families first.
All of us at Idea international want to wish you a happy new year, and in the spirit of the Rat, recommit to finding those sacks of grain for you. Our goal is to empower you to understand our part of the world and how exhibitions and events work in the APAC region. We are on the ground wherever you need us and available 24/7, and after fifteen years, we have absorbed many of those lessons the Monkey wanted us to have when we started out.
PS: Let’s schedule some time to meet up at EuroShop, February 16-20, 2020, in Dusseldorf. I’ll be in the IFES Global Village and look forward to connecting face-to-face.
