India joined the World Trade Organization (W.T.O) in 1995. India’s population is 1.2 billion, and it has the world’s 7th largest economy, predicted to become the largest economy by 2050 with a projected 7.7% annual growth. Trade shows in India are growing at approximately 10% annually.
Long term preparation:
Be sure to take care of your visa(s) and your letter of invitation. Get the necessary vaccinations. Don’t skip the site inspection. We had two exhibits, and on our site visit, we saw this:
Expect to do most of the planning.
A strategic proactive approach to advance planning doesn’t necessarily work in India where the most effective negotiations are done on site. Hone your negotiating skills, and rely heavily on local teams or contacts. If you are shipping anything, be sure to build in more time than you think you need for your items to reach their destinations.
